About Us

At Pebble we tend to focus on mid-century items loosely based around furniture, ceramics, textiles (rugs, throws, cushions, lampshades) , cards and mobiles. We look for items that are well designed or that exhibit interesting features, or that we would have liked in our own home. Typically, we deal in items whose design may often be Danish influenced or from other European or English companies that are well regarded for their lasting work. When required, we refurbish the items using appropriate materials and techniques and always look for a simple and clean finish. Our furniture items are always stripped back to the base wood and built up from there. This includes refinishing, re-webbing and upholstering as necessary. Our upholstery complies with modern fire safety standards.

The furniture refinishing can present a challenge, as to reveal the quality of the wood often requires the removal of heavy colours or varnishes which we do by hand to avoid damage. The items are then recoated using an appropriate finish which may include French polish, Danish oil, waxes (Hard and Soft), paint or varnish. The aim is to leave the piece looking light, fresh and contemporary, yet retaining its original clean design.

Our ceramics revolve around china and pottery, as well as glassware that exhibits good design and colour. Our ‘textiles’ ranges from re-using old embroideries in a new context, through to a number of new household items, as listed above.

As we regularly trawl through auctions, shows and various other sources, we are often able to source a wide variety of products. This means that whilst we try to maintain a core of ‘favourites’, we are also able to display unusual and interesting pieces as they turn up, and therefore our stock is always changing.
